Production
While both Matcha and Green Tea come from the same plant, they are produced in different ways. With Matcha, farmers have to be meticulous about the conditions of the plant in comparison to Green Tea. In addition to that, the tea leaves are grinded into a fine powder to create Matcha. On the other hand, Green Tea goes through different processes that ensure that the tea leaves do not oxidise, to maintain the freshness and bright colour of said tea leaves.

Presentation
Matcha, as it is known for, comes in a fine green powder form, taking on an iconic and vibrant shade of green. Once properly prepared the vibrant green powder turn into an equally vibrant and smooth drink that has a natural sweetness while also carrying a hint of umami taste. Contrarily Green Tea is either sold within individual servings of tea bags or come as loose tea leaves. Once served Green Tea carries a pale yellow hue, with a soothing and light feel, best served hot.
Preparation
Due to the difference in the form that Matcha and Green Tea take, they are both prepared in different ways. With the powdered form of Matcha, one must whisk said powder with water to create an usucha. Opposite to this, Green Tea uses a steeping method in which the tea leaves, which are usually stored in a tea bag or are just loose tea leaves, are placed into a cup of hot water to steep. Once done, the tea bag or the loose tea leaves are removed to prevent over steeping.
Conclusion
Despite coming from the same plant, Matcha and Green Tea harbor their own unique taste and look. From the process to the consumption and overall end product, Matcha and Green Tea are worlds apart. When it comes to choosing which to choose it all boils down to preference, and what one craves for in a drink, either way, both deliver great outcomes that are sure to be a crowd favourite.
